I first used the instructions at https://developer.ubuntu.com/en/start/ubuntu-for-devices/porting-new-device/#dev-setup
Which resulted in:

These are the commands I issued:

fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
fastboot flash cache cache.img
fastboot flash userdata userdata.img



Next I tried the instructions from https://developer.ubuntu.com/en/start/ubuntu-for-devices/installing-ubuntu-for-devices/
With the sole alterations being:

ubuntu-device-flash touch --channel=ubuntu-touch/rc-proposed/ubuntu --bootstrap

ubuntu-device-flash touch --channel=ubuntu-touch/devel-proposed/ubuntu --bootstrap

The results were the same. - An error about a tar ball and a directory.



For my most recent attempt I downloaded the images from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch/
